On Oct. 29, Chief Diversity Officer Ainsley Thomas, along with representatives from the college and the Educational Opportunity Center, met with over 70 representatives from our refugee and immigrant community at the Washington Avenue Branch of the Albany Public Library to discuss career opportunities.
In the Capital District alone this year, we welcomed 412 Afghan evacuees plus 149 refugees from other countries, for a total of 561 arrivals, the highest number of individuals resettled in the Greater Capital District since 2016. In addition, 104 Ukrainians have also arrived in the area. Many are professionals in their homeland and are looking for career opportunities.
A special thanks to the following people for making the event a success:
Dean Penny Hill
Polly Karis, admissions counselor
Kelly Bunkley, assistant to the Vice President of Student Affairs
Elaine Harwood, coordinator of Student Affairs at the EOC
In service,
Ainsley Thomas
Chief Diversity Officer
